Welcome, Cheryl Urasaki, to Leeward Community College!
Cheryl is our new Academic Support Specialist for electronic resources and technical services. Her first day with us was Thursday, March 1st. Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She has been fortunate to work in various types of libraries, including medical, special, and academic. She comes to us after a 9-year stint at Hawaiʻi Pacific University Libraries, where she worked as a library assistant, Health Sciences Librarian, and Electronic Resources Librarian.
Cheryl was attracted to Leeward because of the philosophy that “everyone is welcome, and anyone can be a college graduate; you don’t need to have a lot of money, or a perfect academic record. It’s a very supportive environment, and we will do everything we can to help students succeed.” She is grateful to have met many kind and friendly people at Leeward, and feels that the strong sense of community is very special.
Fun fact: Cheryl has 3 children and they got her into K-pop, anime, and manga.
We are extremely lucky to have Cheryl and if you haven’t had the chance to meet her yet, please drop by! Maybe you can discuss K-pop, anime, and manga?
