ProQuest Ebook Central Unavailable April 21 / Our E-book Collections

Ebook Central will be unavailable due to system maintenance on Saturday, April 21st, starting at 4:00 pm HST for approximately five hours. Many of the e-books you find while searching the Hawaiʻi Voyager online library catalog or the OneSearch multi-database search tool come from Ebook Central, and therefore will not be available during this period.

Ebook Central gives us access to electronic versions of over 150,000 books, which you can view online. Most of them can be downloaded to your computer or mobile device for 21 days. You can also print or save a limited portion of each book. You may be familiar with ebrary, the previous version of this service; they were acquired by ProQuest several years ago.

We also have e-books and e-book excerpts from EBSCO, OverDrive, Safari Books Online, Capstone Interactive Library, Credo Reference, Gale Virtual Reference Library, and others. Our e-book collections are available to Leeward CC students, staff, and faculty.

Some e-books have limits on how many people can view them at the same time. Typically, these are e-books that we have added to our packaged collections to address specific needs. The pricing for such e-book titles often constrains us to more limited access terms.

For faculty, linking to e-books and articles in our online collections is an easy and legal way to distribute readings to your students. We have a guide on how to do this.

Ulukau: The Hawaiian Digital Library, is a freely-available collection of digitized dictionaries, books, newspapers, genealogical indexes, and curriculum resources in the Hawaiian and English languages.
